You have to be your own guinea pig and experiment with what works for you in terms of how many calories you need to reduce in order to meet your goal. To succeed you need to track your calories. What I use is a 3×5 notebook I get at Target. Put the date, your weight, and calories for everything that goes in your mouth. This can include breakfast, a mid-morning snack of fruit, a big salad for lunch, a mid-afternoon snack around 4pm, and then dinner. Then write down all of your movement for the day, including walking, swimming, horseback riding, tennis, pickleball, other sports, dancing, housework, or anything else you do.
